The Bisons (4-1) fell down 25-10 in the early going in tonight’s tilt with Philander Smith College (3-9) but roared back to take a four-point halftime lead and eventually a 93-76 victory. Senior Brandon Sims had a career night as the Bisons’ leading scorer and rebounder, putting up 27 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Lonnie Smith was on-and-off, but added 20 points of his own. Alassane Savadogo and Patrick Andrepont also reached double figures. Sims’ performance produced the highest game score that a Bison has had this season (28.9). Lonnie Smith’s was also over 10, and Savadogo, Andrepont, and Reggie Bibb were all over 8 with solid nights.
Ronnie Graham (affectionately known to the Bison fans as Peter Pan) had the best night for PSC with 10 points and 11 rebounds, contributing to a game score of 10.3. Graham was the only PSC player with a GS over 10, but Dalun Smith had 20 points to lead the team in scoring.
The Bisons were erratic from outside, hoisting up 30 threes but only making 10; however, solid inside play and excellent rebounding made up for that bit of trouble and allowed the Bisons to pull out the win.
The four keys:
HU | Opp. | +/- | |
TS% | 59.0 | 50.5 | 0.170 |
OR% | 35.9% | 24.4% | 0.472 |
TR | 15.7 | 17.7 | 0.114 |
FTM/P | 0.230 | 0.107 | 1.150 |
Here you can see the Bisons’ large edge in true shooting percentage and offensive rebounding, which was key to the big victory. Turnovers were not exactly a strong point, but the Bisons’ advantage in the other categories was too much for PSC to overcome.

The Bisons play tomorrow night at home against North Alabama, which is a rematch of an earlier HU road victory. #3 Reprobatus Bibbs and #11 A.J. Gordon were UNA’s stars for that game, if any of you Rowdies would like to make some advance heckling preparation. They also give significant minutes to players named Lucky (#13, ironically) and Prince (#1), for your cheering pleasure.
