Incarnate Word takes second game in Austin

21st Ranked Bisons Fall to Incarnate Word, 79-70 [HardingSports.com]

In recent years for Harding Basketball, there has been one thing you can count on: if the three-point shots aren’t falling, the Bisons certainly are. That was the case today against Incarnate Word in Austin, Texas, where Harding just couldn’t hit enough shots and fell 79-70.

Here are the keys:

  HU UIW +/-
Eff 84.4 100.8 -16.3
TS% 47.3 53.8 -0.065
OR% 27.9% 31.6% -0.037
TR 19.8 16.9 -0.029
      -16.6

Shooting was the culprit for the Bisons. Matt Hall finished with 23 points to lead the team, but he shot just 7-of-18 from the field. Hall, Cole Kee, and Trent Morgan combined to make just 4 of 20 three-point attempts in a poor display overall from the outside. Incarnate Word was led by forward Jason Grant, who scored 20 points and pulled in 19 rebounds, which were both team-leading totals.

Here are Harding’s “other” stats:

40 Wise, Jordan…….. 8 -0.5 -0.063 0.0 4.2 40.0 20.0 12.3%

Quick thoughts:

Trent Morgan distributed the ball well again, and actually started the game, perhaps making the case that he should be the starting point guard. He didn’t shot well, but if Bibb continues to be of no use offensively and Barnett keeps turning the ball over, he may be the most viable option.

Kee was again the key. A poor shooting night equaled a loss for the Bisons. Perhaps no other player is more important to the Bisons’ success. If he’s going to get 20 minutes per game, he’s going to have to shoot well more often than not.

The Bisons will be off for Thanksgiving and come back at home a week from Monday night against Alabama-Huntsville. This will presumably be their last week as a ranked team, following today’s loss.

Two side notes:

I apologize if anyone’s comments have been caught by my spam filter and deleted without reaching the site.  I’ll try to pay closer attention to that.

Stats are up, at least in Excel format, if you follow the “Basketball” link on the top nav bar, then click “06-07 HU Stats.”  I’ll try to come up with a better way to display them, but for now, that’s all I have.
