Brian McCann has already caught more than his share of innings in the first half, and Chipper Jones has been battling three or four different injuries. Both of those were probably expected this year, and both problems won’t be going away this week. McCann and Jones are the two Braves headed to the All-Star Game on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, Jones as a starter, and McCann as a reserve (although he is more deserving of a start than the Cubs’ Geovany Soto).
The All-Star Game also means that the Braves don’t play again until Friday against the Nationals. This will give me another day or so to work on putting together two weeks’ worth of stats, which you might imagine will take some extra time. It’d be easier if FanGraphs did their live stats the same way as their archive (I could be finishing it right now, as the Braves have already won Sunday’s game at this writing), but they don’t.
My goal is to have everything ready for a post on Tuesday, since it’s already been 2 weeks since the last Braves Check. Right now I’ll plan on doing another one next Monday, despite the short week, unless something else comes up.
I’m working on a midseason player capsule-style post, which is taking a little longer than expected. I have stats up now, though.
