Schedule for the week of August 11, 2008

Monday night: Braves stat update
Tuesday: Braves Check

Football season is creeping up around the corner, but I hope to finish out the baseball season with some good posts, even if the Braves are no longer in contention.  There are still some things to watch for, like Friday’s deadline for signing this year’s draft picks and the September roster expansion.

I don’t know if I’ll have anything the rest of the week.  I went kayaking this past weekend, but I don’t have any pictures or anything to share, since I couldn’t exactly take my camera down the river.  Unless something else comes up, that may be it for this week.

  1. Jeff Francoeur – the next Ben Grieve? Or would that comparison even be insulting to the career of Ben Grieve?

  2. Some might say that the current sports season is best described as Gettin’-Ready-for-Football-Season Season.

On that note, can we look forward to another one of these in the upcoming weeks?

  3. Wow, I hadn’t even thought about the comparison to Grieve. That’s pretty disheartening.

Hopefully I’ll get the chance to post something like that again this year, but you’ll be happy to hear that UF won the national title (over Ohio State) in the 2008 season of my NCAA 09 dynasty. I went 10-2 and beat Purdue in the Capital One Bowl.

  4. Can we ever look forward to the Doug Sparks’ College Football Blog?

Either of you all think Vanderbilt can win a conference game this year? No one in our clan is optimistic. It may be a minor miracle if they win the opener at Miami (OH).

Also Florida currently -33.5 Hawaii. Your thoughts? I think Hawaii backdoor covers it as Urban Meyer doesn’t want to show too much on the offensive side of the ball for future opponents & the 2nd string comes in early to prevent injury.

  5. Jay, no time for a CFB blog this season. If my schedule loosens up a bit, maybe 2009?

I think it’s more likely than not that Vandy WILL win a conference game in 2008. I’d probably give them at least a 10% chance in each of their conference games besides UF and UGA, and more like a 20% chance at Mississippi State. That’s six opportunities to bag a win. So if the over/under on Vandy conference wins is 0.5, put me down for a couple hundred bucks on the over.

But I agree with you that I don’t think we’ll cover in our opener. Hawaii’s still a fringe-bowl-caliber WAC team. It’s not like they’re The Citadel. I’d put the line at more like 27 or 28.
