Bison Basketball ranked #24 in latest NABC poll

The Bisons have never been ranked in an in-season NABC/Division-II coaches’ poll, at least not until now. They were ranked #21 in the preseason poll two years ago but quickly fell out.

Two other GSC West teams are in the top 25, with UAM at #8 and Ouachita at #16. The only ranked team from the GSC East is Valdosta State at #20.

The Bisons are 8-1 and have won their last eight games, including a win over #15 North Alabama, which dropped to the “receiving votes” part of the poll. They’re 5-1 against other D-II teams, having swept UNA and UAH and split with Missouri S&T.

  1. Do you know much about UAM? Are they really that good this year? I guess we’ll see later this season. Any info would be helpful

  2. I didn’t really know what to think about UAM at the beginning of the year. They returned their two best players and have good size for a GSC team, so that’s a plus for them. They’re 5-0 against other D-II teams, including a win over Virginia Union, which is typically a basketball powerhouse.

It’s hard to tell too much about these other GSC teams early in the year, but I suppose it’s better to win all your games than not. They certainly look good right now.

  3. Mike Newell won more games in his first five years as a Head Coach than John Wooden.

He wants to win a national championship at UAM, and if you know your history, don’t count him out.

Also other fun Mike Newell facts:
Curiosity didn’t kill the cat. Mike Newell killed the cat with his bare hands.

Mike Newell isn’t afraid of thunderstorms. Mike Newell invented thunderstorms.
